Government of Rajasthan conducts workshop on National Policy on Urban Street Vendors

There was a meeting held in the leadership of principal secretary, urban development on the 9th Feb 2010 at 3:30 in local self governance building for a presentation and to give recommendations on the National Policy for urban street vendors-2009. This meeting started with a round of introductions.
 
After the round of introductions, a presentation was given by Amit on Jeevika after that Ms Shalini of SEWA Ahemdabad gave a presentation on how they did a survey of the city with the help of their members and how they were able to identify places for street vendors in the walled city of Ahemdabad, which was congested. After this the second speaker Mr Arbind Singh gave presentation on how we can change the outlook towards vending and also make all the vendors part of the growth and inclusive planning.
 
There after the Bhubaneshwar video Pehal was shown, right after that a question answer session followed. A question on how it Bhubaneshwar was successful and how should the decongestion of the walled city should be done was discussed. There was a doubt raised by Additional commissioner JDA that if we give the identification cards there would be many problems like how will we make sure that who are legitimate and illegitimate vendors, her question was answered by Mr Arbind Singh that how we can take help of external unbiased agencies in getting surveys done and giving street vendors identity cards and also why is it necessary to standardize street vendors.
 
Mr Om Prakash Deora who is an executive committee member of NASVI discussed the problem of recent evictions of Jodhpur, he was handed over the memorandum given to the CM, to which Mr Sandhu gave responsibility to his colleague to take care of the problems that the vendors of Jodhpur are facing.
 
After all this discussion Mr G S Sandhu gave orders to his colleagues to identify vending zones in all the places of Jaipur, and to start the process of doing survey for giving identification cards to the present street vendors of Jaipur.
