RANCHI: The state government on Wednesday approved a number of proposals to improve management of urban bodies and infrastructure. The proposal of enactment of a new law to regulate street vending and protection of livelihood in urban areas was also approved.
According to special cabinet secretary DK Saxena, the cabinet gave its approval for appointment of 25 city managers for urban local bodies on three years contract. The city managers will be responsible for strengthening urban local bodies in the state.
These city managers will be professionals having MBA or post-graduate degrees in urban and town planning or public administration and will be given salary at par with officers of the state administrative service.
A proposal for appointment of 100 other employees, including 36 assistant engineers, 21 junior engineers, 24 computer operators-cum-office assistants and 19 assistants no contract for five years was also approved by the cabinet.
"It was decided that a law--Jharkhand Urban Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2010--should be enacted to safeguard the interest of street vendors on urban areas of the state," said Saxena.
The act will focus on survey of street vendors and process for their registration so that they are provided benefits from the government through different schemes from time to time.
"Through the Act, we will also try to improve quality of products and services provided by the vendors," said Saxena.
The Cabinet also gave its approval for calling the budget session of the assembly. The month-long session will begin on February 26. The budget will be tabled on March 5 and will be passed on March 26. |
