The StreetNet International is an international alliance of street trader and hawker organizations, which was launched in Durban, South Africa, in November 2002 with member organizations across the world. The main objective of StreetNet is to promote the exchange of information and ideas on critical issues facing street vendors, market vendors and hawkers (mobile vendors) and on practical organizing and advocacy strategies. In Asia, 5 member organizations from India (National Association of Street Vendors of India, Self Employed Women’s Association), Korea (Korean Street Vendors Confederation),Bangladesh(Self-Employed Union) and Nepal Street Vendors Trade Union are affiliated and working with StreetNet International. The National Associations of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) is one of the largest and active affiliate members of StreetNet International in India. With the members support and committed initiatives, NASVI is emerging as a largest, powerful and influencing street vendor’s federation in Asia. By acknowledging these credentials, recently NASVI has been chosen as a Focal Point of StreetNet International in Asia. NASVI as a Focal Point will lead and assist the affiliates of StreetNet in Asia and will also identify more street vendor organizations to strengthen the StreetNet in Asia.
Constitution of Provisional Co-ordinating Committee
As per the policy of StreetNet, the focal point organisation should constitute a “provisional co-ordinating committee”, which will primarily support the focal point organisation in the function of regional coordination. NASVI has established a provisional co-ordinating committee with the representatives of 5 member organizations in Asia.
